The Labor Force Survey (LFS) is a known survey of households conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population. Data from the survey provides information on major labor market trends such as labor force participation and unemployment rates, hours worked, past industries and occupations of the currently unemployed persons.
LFS provides information as basis for the formulation of policies and programs, provides statistics on levels and trends of employment, unemployment and underemployment for the country and regions. It is used for the projection of future human resource, which when compared with the future human resource requirements, will help identify employment and training needs. It helps in the assessment of the potential human resource available for economic development and also it provides labor statistics profile of the population across domains and socio-economic groups.
The Jobs and Skills Survey or JSS will be the third survey of its kind conducted in the Philippines, following similar implementations in Georgia and Bhutan. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has requested the PSA to undertake this survey. Data items asked in other countries were the same to ensure consistency and uniformity. The JSS aims to collect data on various topics, including job tasks and skills usage, employment working conditions, remote work, and adaptability to new technologies. Together with LFS, the JSS will provide critical information to support the development of policies aimed at improving employment opportunities.
The JSS is a nationwide survey which aims to collect critical data on employment, skills, and labor conditions which will enhance the understanding of national and regional labor markets, contributing to more informed and effective policy.
Mr. Edward Donald F. Eloja, Chief Statistical Specialist SOCD RSSO BARMM thanked the participants for joining the training despite the heavy workloads. He reminded everyone to tackle the recurring errors during the 3rd level training with the Statistical Researchers to avoid or lessen the same errors to ensure the quality of data.
