The Philippine Statistics Authority - Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PSA-BARMM), led by Engr. Akan G. Tula, successfully conducted its 2nd Region-wide Sports Fest from December 12 to 14, 2024, at the Elai Resort Hotel and Recreation Center in Kidapawan City.
he three-day event showcased a diverse range of activities, combining traditional sports and modern games. Competitions included basketball, volleyball, chess, billiards, badminton, darts (single men, women, and mixed doubles categories), swimming relays for men and women, and a singing contest featuring solo and duet performances. Popular online games like Mobile Legends also added a contemporary flair to the festivities.
In his opening remarks, Engr. Akan G. Tula underscored the essence of companionship and sportsmanship. “Winning is not the most important thing here. What matters most is your participation and the friendships we build along the way,” he stated. He also encouraged participants to compete with grace, reminding winners to stay humble and urging others to embrace their experiences positively.
The event included moments of recognition and gratitude. Special acknowledgment was given to Mr. Alonto, Chief Statistical Specialist of PSA-Lanao del Sur, in honor of his children’s recent achievements in passing the BAR and LET exams.
Additionally, Engr. Tula shared the good news of the release of the Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) for qualified personnel. To further enhance connectivity, one Starlink unit was awarded to each province.
The Sports Fest also highlighted artistic talents through the Pasiklaban Singing Competition, which celebrated outstanding performances from PSA personnel. The winners were: Duet Category: PSO Maguindanao, Solo Category: RSSO BARMM
Special recognition was also awarded to Fidelluddin U. Gayanandang for being the first to complete the 35th NSM Virtual Run, alongside acknowledgments for exemplary performances in singing and dancing contests.
The sports competitions demonstrated the energy and dedication of PSA-BARMM personnel, resulting in the following rankings:
Overall, Champion: PSO Lanao del Sur, First Runner-up: PSO Tawi-Tawi, Other Top Placers: RSSO BARMM, PSO Sulu, PSO Maguindanao, and PSO Basilan.

In his closing remarks, CSS Naldo G. Pendaliday of PSO Maguindanao delivered an inspiring message: “Through sportsmanship, camaraderie, and unity, we witnessed the spirit of fair play and togetherness. This Sports Fest is more than just about winning—it’s about lifting one another and showcasing solidarity across PSA units in BARMM.”
The 2nd Region-wide Sports Fest was not only a platform for showcasing athletic and creative talents but also an opportunity to strengthen teamwork, camaraderie, and collaboration among PSA-BARMM personnel. The event concluded on a high note, with renewed hope and excitement for future activities aimed at fostering unity and inclusivity across the region.
