The Philippine Statistics Authority in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PSA BARMM) conducted the 2022 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) Data Dissemination Forum and the 2024 Quarterly Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (QSPBI) Regional Respondents Forum on November 27, 2024, at the Mall of Alnor (Robinsons), Cotabato City. The forums were held via a hybrid setup, allowing both in-person and virtual participation.

Ms. Donita P. Escritor, Statistical Specialist II, and Ms. Janet Joy A. Dabu, Statistical Specialist I of the Sectoral Statistics Office, Economic Sector Statistics Service, Statistical Standards Division of the PSA Central Office, served as resource persons and facilitator for the event.
In his opening remarks, Edward Donald F. Eloja, Chief of the Statistical Operations and Coordination Division (SOCD), highlighted the critical role of establishment surveys conducted by the PSA. He stated: "The data collected from these surveys are processed and shared with concerned agencies for policymaking. While the contributions of establishments may seem indirect, the insights derived from these statistics play a vital role in nation-building."

Chief Eloja further emphasized the focus on formal establishments, particularly those formally registered with regulatory bodies, stressing the importance of their data in shaping policies and economic strategies.

The ASPBI, one of the PSA’s designated statistical activities, generates essential economic planning and analysis statistics. It specifically gathers data on the levels, structure, performance, and trends of the formal sector’s economic activities, providing critical insights into the country's economic landscape.

Regional Director Tula underscored the importance of interpreting statistics beyond numbers, stating: "ASPBI results are not just figures; they tell the story of our region's economic resilience and innovations. For example, a remarkable 116% increase in e-commerce highlights the dynamism of our economy. But do we feel this growth at the grassroots level? These numbers reflect the power of statistics to fuel growth and inspire progress."

He called on participants to embrace data-driven insights, stressing that statistics represent the collective hard work of individuals, businesses, and communities striving for a better future where no one is left behind.

In the afternoon session, Ms. Donita P. Escritor, Statistical Specialist II from the Sectoral Statistics Office, Economic Sector Statistics Service, Statistical Standards Division of the PSA Central Office, emphasized the critical role of the Quarterly Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (QSPBI) in economic analysis.

“QSPBI data is one of the most important tools for computing the economy's overall performance. We need science to measure and understand the country's economic progress,” she said. “This is why we exist—PSA as compilers of economic accounts, NEDA as planners, and all of you as our data partners.”

Ms. Ma. Theresa Llano, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Notre Dame University, delivered a message of support, commending the PSA for organizing the event and fostering collaboration across sectors.

“These datasets are invaluable for enhancing academic pursuits. For our faculty, they are gold mines for research—offering evidence-based insights and validating theories. For students, they provide practical applications of economic concepts and stimulate critical thinking and problem-solving skills through real-world case studies. By staying updated on regional economic trends through forums like this, we can ensure our curriculum remains relevant and responsive to the evolving needs of students and the job market.”

From the business sector, Ms. Angelou V. Pamplona of SS Superama Inc., Cotabato branch, highlighted the importance of data in decision-making and innovation.
“This forum serves as an essential platform for fostering collaboration and generating valuable insights among businesses and industries. The data we provide is not just about numbers; it is a testament to the collective efforts of establishments that continuously contribute to the success of these surveys.”

“Our company has always believed in the power of data to guide decision-making, promote innovation, and drive progress. Being recognized as an active partner is both humbling and inspiring—it reaffirms our commitment to collaboration and contributing to the nation’s economic development”, she added.

The PSA also recognized exemplary contributors to the ASPBI and QSPBI surveys, celebrating their dedication to providing accurate data for economic growth.
